What is KTET and Why It Matters
The Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test is a mandatory qualification exam for anyone who wants to teach in government and government aided schools in Kerala. Passing KTET alone does not give you a teaching job — it makes you eligible to apply when Kerala PSC releases recruitment notifications for teaching posts.
The exam is conducted in four categories based on teaching level:
Category I — Lower Primary classes 1 to 5. Candidates with D.Ed or equivalent qualification apply here.
Category II — Upper Primary classes 6 to 8. Candidates with B.Ed or equivalent qualification apply here.
Category III — High School classes 9 and 10. Candidates with relevant subject specialization and B.Ed apply here.
Category IV — Language Teachers covering Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu and Specialist Teachers covering Physical Education and Art. Specific qualification requirements apply for each language and subject.
Candidates can appear for more than one category if they hold the required educational qualifications for each.

| Category | General Category | SC/ST/OBC/PH |

| Category II — Upper Primary | 90 out of 150 — 60% | 82 out of 150 — 55% |
| Category III — High School | 90 out of 150 — 60% | 82 out of 150 — 55% |
| Category IV — Language and Specialist | 90 out of 150 — 60% | 82 out of 150 — 55% |
The qualifying marks are the same across all four categories. General category candidates need at least 90 out of 150. Reserved category candidates need at least 82 out of 150.

What Details Are on the KTET 2026 Scorecard
Once you download your scorecard check all of these carefully:
Candidate name and spelling, registration number, date of birth, category applied for, subject wise marks obtained, total marks, qualifying status — Qualified or Not Qualified.
If there is any discrepancy in name, registration number or marks contact Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan through the official portal immediately. Do not delay.
KTET Certificate 2026 — Lifetime Validity
One of the most significant things about KTET is that the qualifying certificate carries lifetime validity. As per the Kerala Education Ministry notification from June 2021 candidates who qualify KTET do not need to retake the exam to maintain their eligibility for teaching positions in Kerala.
This means if you qualify in the December 2025 session your certificate is valid permanently — no revalidation, no renewal, no re-examination required. Only qualified candidates will be issued a KTET certificate which they can use for all future Kerala PSC teaching post recruitments.
What Happens After Qualifying KTET 2026
Clearing KTET is step one. Here is what comes after:
Step 1 — KTET Certificate Qualified candidates will be issued a KTET certificate by Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan. Keep it safe — you will need it at every stage of the teacher recruitment process.
Step 2 — Kerala PSC Teaching Post Notifications Keep tracking Kerala PSC notifications at keralapsc.gov.in and thulasi.psc.kerala.gov.in. When teaching post vacancies are announced for Lower Primary, Upper Primary or High School — KTET qualification is a mandatory eligibility criterion.
Step 3 — Apply Through Thulasi When a relevant teaching post notification is released apply through the One Time Registration system on thulasi.psc.kerala.gov.in within the announced deadline.
Step 4 — Written Exam and Rank List Kerala PSC conducts a written exam for teaching posts. Final selection is through rank list based on written exam performance. KTET qualified candidates are eligible to appear.
Did Not Qualify — What Are Your Options
Not qualifying KTET in this session is not the end. Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan conducts KTET twice a year — typically a June session and a December session. The next session is KTET June 2026 for which the exam is expected in September 2026.
Use the time between now and the next exam productively. Review the subjects where your marks were lower. The KTET exam covers content knowledge, child development and pedagogy, language proficiency and teaching methodology. Focused preparation in weaker areas significantly improves scores in the next attempt.
There is no limit on the number of times a candidate can appear for KTET.
